Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission completed 154 investigations on corruption and economic crime during the last Financial Year, 2021-2022. As highlighted in the EACC annual report released on Monday, the files were forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and action.<\/p>\n

Over the aforementioned period, the commission said it received and processed 5,048 corruption reports, of which 1,916 reports were found to be within its mandate and taken up for investigation.<\/p>\n

“In addition, 52 investigations on violation of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya and Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012 were completed,” the report reads.<\/p>\n

The anti-corruption commission further conducted 25 proactive investigations resulting in averting losses of about Sh4 billion of public funds. EACC said this was done by cancelling irregular tenders and stopping fraudulent payments.<\/p>\n

During the period, the commission traced, for the purposes of recovery, 33 illegally acquired public assets with an estimated value of Sh11.2 billion.<\/p>\n

It recovered assets valued at Sh940 million, which it said were returned to the government for public benefit. “The other traced assets are under recovery through civil litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR),” it added.<\/p>\n

EACC realized several convictions with fines of up to Sh9.4 billion and custodial sentences of up to 24 years. It said some of the convicts were barred from holding appointive and elective positions for a period of 10 years.<\/p>\n

“Further, the unethical issues of public officers with fake academic qualifications were concluded in court where orders to refund salaries were granted,” the report added.<\/p>\n

In addition to the investigations, EACC undertook and completed Corruption Risk Assessments (CRAs) in the County Executive and County Assemblies of Bungoma, Mombasa and Isiolo.<\/p>\n
