Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>County governments are yet to settle over Sh131 billion worth of pending bills, data from the Office of the Auditor General and Controller of Budget shows. It indicates that Nairobi county accounts for most of the amount based on audited Pending Bills as of December 21, 2021.<\/p>\n

The data shows that of the Sh131,354,699,869 owed to contractors, suppliers, unremitted statutory and other deductions, Nairobi accounts for Sh84.78 billion of the amount.<\/p>\n

The data contained in the Kenya Kwanza debut Budget Policy Statement shows that Lamu has the least pending bills at Sh29.5 million. It shows that 12 counties paid Sh1.8 billion in ineligible pending bills for 2020.<\/p>\n

On eligible pending bills totalling Sh48.1 billion, counties settled Sh22.8 billion with a balance of Sh25.1 billion. Total ineligible bills stand at Sh108 billion of which Sh106.7 billion is yet to be cleared.<\/p>\n

According to the data, Garissa has the second highest pending bills at Sh4.9 billion, followed by Wajir with Sh4.6 billion while Kiambu has Sh4.1 billion.<\/p>\n
