Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told off the opposition saying they should stop directing President William Ruto on what to do. Speaking during the commissioning of the Ruiru affordable housing on Thursday, the DP said Azimio has been working hard to dictate Ruto’s agenda.<\/p>\n

“We are telling these Azimio characters. Please, don’t try to set an agenda for President William Ruto,” he said. The former Mathira MP added that the President’s agenda was clear in the Kenya Kwanza plan, and was anchored on the social contract with Kenyans.<\/p>\n

Seemingly hitting out at chief opposition leader Raila Odinga on his remarks on churches being used as political platforms, Gachagua said Ruto did not need advice on where to attend service or where to go for development programmes.<\/p>\n

“In any case, nyinyi msiongee mambo ya kanisa. Mlikuwa mnasema mtafunga mngepata. Hiyo maneno muwachane nayo (In any case, you should let the church business be. You were saying you’d close them if you were to be elected.),” he added.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Mombasa on January 8, Raila said leaders should stop using churches as political platforms. “We come to church to pray and fellowship with fellow Christians,” he said.<\/p>\n

“If we want to talk politics, let’s do it out there on the field. Our colleagues have turned the church into a political field. After fellowship, they lecture us on what we have done and what we want, which is unacceptable.”<\/p>\n

Gachagua went on to say, unlike the former administration, the Ruto-led government was not going to fall prey to the dictation of the opposition. “You took on to advise the handshake government. You made agendas in the handshake government. Ilizama, haikuzama?” he asked.<\/p>\n

“Do you want the President to listen to these people? Their advice destroyed the country’s economy.”<\/p>\n

The DP reiterated his remarks from September 2022, that the current administration took over a dilapidated economy. “I said it at Kasarani. When we took over the government, we found nothing at the store,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added: “We inherited a problem caused by the handshake people but the President is trying to sort it out.” He urged the public to be patient with their leaders as the government works to sort out the economic state of the country.<\/p>\n
