Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The road towards improving the terms and conditions of service for police and prison service officers has embarked in earnest. The National Taskforce on Improvement of Terms and Conditions of Service and other Reforms for Members of the National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service has announced countrywide visits to get proposals on transformation.<\/p>\n

\u201cStakeholders and the public who are not able to submit written memoranda are invited to attend public hearings and give their views,\u201d the secretariat of the taskforce said in a paid advert.<\/p>\n

The 20-member taskforce which is chaired by retired Chief Justice David Maraga will divide itself into several teams and tour all 47 counties from 6-17 February. The taskforce was appointed by President William Ruto in a gazette notice dated December 21, 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe terms of reference of the taskforce are to review the human capital management and development policies with a view of examining and reviewing standards and practices in recruitment, deployment, transfers, training, career progression, performance-based and competitive promotions, reward, exit, and post-exit management,\u201d the notice said.<\/p>\n

In the advert, the taskforce said it will identify legal, policy, administrative, institutional and operational constraints on effective service delivery by the Kenya Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service.<\/p>\n

It said it will also review and recommend improvement of terms and conditions of the service. The taskforce added that it will further review and recommend matters relating to the welfare of officers in all cadres and all other matters incidental to optimal service delivery.<\/p>\n
