Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Applicants seeking to be appointed as a commissioner in the National police service commission (NPSC) have until February 20 to submit their applications.<\/p>\n

In an advert, the selection panel has declared a vacancy for a member of the commission. The panel intends to fill the position left by former commissioner Naftali Rono who resigned and went back to the National Intelligence Service (NIS).<\/p>\n

President William Ruto appointed the seven-member panel made up of Arthur A. Osiya (chairperson), Joyce Nyabuti, Gilbert Mutembei, Monica Muiru and Raymond Plal Sang and Joyce Mutinda and Mbeti Mchuki in a Gazette notice dated January 13.<\/p>\n

For an appointment, the panel has said a candidate must have 10 years of experience in law, economics, finance and administration and labour laws. “They must have had a distinguished career in their respective fields,” Osiya says. Human rights, ethics and governance and human resource development and management are some of the other aspects required of the applicants.<\/p>\n

\u201cA person shall not be qualified for nomination if the person is, a serving state officer, member of a governor body of a political party, undischarged bankrupt, convicted of a felony, removed from office for contravening provisions of the Constitution or has served as MP or MCA in the previous five years,\u201d reads the notice.<\/p>\n

The commission is currently under the chairmanship of Eliud Kinuthia. It has Alice Otwala, Lilian Kiamba, Eusebius Laibuta and John Moyaki as members including the Inspector General of Police and his deputies.<\/p>\n

A member of the commission is appointed on a single term of six years. The current commissioners were appointed in 2019 by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta after the expiry of the term of Johnston Kavuludi in October 2018.<\/p>\n
