Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested a 7th suspect in connection with the Rift Valley Water Service Board over alleged corruption. The contractor behind the alleged Sh600 million tender for the construction of Malaba Water and Sanitation Project is set to be arraigned tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The suspect is alleged to have engaged in irregular procurement and award of contract for the construction of the Malaba Water and Sanitation Project and water supply works at Sh600 million.<\/p>\n

According to EACC Bungoma Regional Manager Christine Natome, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody when he presented himself following the directive issued by the Commission last week.<\/p>\n

The suspect is expected to take a plea on February,7,2023, to answer to charges of fraudulent practice in procurement contrary to section 66 (1) as read with 177 (a) of the public procurement and asset disposal act 2015.<\/p>\n

The Commission said he is currently detained at EACC Bungoma offices, awaiting arraignment at the county anti-corruption court on Tuesday. Another six suspects took a plea on February 2, 2023, and were each granted bond of Sh1 million each with two sureties of a similar amount or Sh500,000.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Monday, they were presented before the Bungoma Anti-Corruption Court. Senior principal magistrate Charles Mutai set the mentioned date on February 15, and the hearing for April 11.<\/p>\n
