Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday met with players from the timber industry to look into issues holding the sector back. The meeting which took place at Harambee House Annex was also attended by Environment CS Soipan Tuya.<\/p>\n

Gachagua said one of the issues that have limited the growth of the industry is restrictions on the commercial plantation of trees. He said the sector has great potential in spurring the country’s economy and the government is keen to ensure its growth.<\/p>\n

“I have asked the Ministry of Environment to further engage saw millers and other industry players to streamline the issues in the sector,” Gachagua said. He also encouraged the saw millers to fully support the government in the ongoing efforts of planting 15 billion trees in the next 10 years.<\/p>\n
