Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has asked Trade Union leadership to now shift their focus to creating jobs. He insisted that they should also channel their push towards more savings and not only raises on salary.<\/p>\n

Ruto called on the unionists led by Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli to change the way they have previously approached labour issues. He said this way, the country will employ more people and reduce the number of jobless youths in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet us rally to employ more youth. Your success cannot be measured only through the increase in salaries,\u201d he said. The President spoke on Tuesday when he met workers’ representatives at State House, Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Ruto added that labour unions are integral drivers of policy-making that contribute to equality and inclusive socio-economic development. \u201cThat is why we should routinely engage and partner to create synergy and ease resolution of labor-related issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the Head of State urged the unions to also look into the welfare of workers, especially those in the Diaspora. Ruto asked the unions to work with the government in the Affordable Housing Project that promises decent homes to millions of ordinary Kenyans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should also work together to actualise the Universal Health Coverage that will ensure all Kenyans access quality and affordable medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was also present said during the meeting said the Kenya Kwanza administration will work with all for unity and development.<\/p>\n

\u201cElections should not be an issue to divide the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
