Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Six bright but needy students from the Teso region can now realise their high school dream after Busia Governor Paul Otuoma and his Deputy Arthur Odera came to their rescue.<\/p>\n

The county bosses have offered full four-year personal scholarships to the girls and boys. Addressing the press at Ang\u2019urai after visiting their homes, Odera said the students will be reporting to their respective schools this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese students have beaten all the odds to score great marks that warrant a secondary school opportunity. We have heeded their parents\u2019 call to assist them in their studies,\u201d Odera said.<\/p>\n

The deputy governor was accompanied by Ang\u2019urai North MCA Isaac Wamalwa and his Ang\u2019urai South counterpart Joseph Eseme. The DG added that the move is in line with their pre-election pledges to support education by ensuring needy students access education.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are aware that an enlightened community is key to ending poverty in our societies. We will continue to put up measures in place to address challenges facing residents,\u201d he said. Odera said more students are set to benefit from the initiative once the county supplementary budget is approved by the county assembly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have set aside funds for bursary for each of the 35 wards in the County. We will work closely with MCAs, Sub County, Ward and Village administrators to ensure all needy cases are assisted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the administration of Governor Otuoma is committed to ensuring a hundred percent transition. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the county bosses for their support.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very thankful and happy that I will be joining high school, I had lost hope but now my dream to become an engineer will be realised,\u201d 14-year-old Ian Etyang who is set to Join Kolanya Boys High School said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to promise that I will work hard and save my family from poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n

15-year-old Dorcas Onyapidi who is set to join St Joseph\u2019s Girls High school Kitale could not hide her joy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to assure my governor that I will not let him down, with a full scholarship I am able to fulfil my academic desires and become a doctor.\u201d The county government of Busia will this week start vetting beneficiaries for the county bursaries.<\/p>\n
