Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo has protested against Speaker Amason Kingi’s failure to effect changes in the minority leadership. Madzayo said that despite writing to the speaker as provided for in the standing orders, he failed to communicate the changes on the floor.<\/p>\n

“I find it a bit strange as the leader of minority. Despite the fact that I wrote to you, you have not effected the changes,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Azimio coalition on Wednesday removed Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo as its Minority Whip. She was replaced by Narok Senator Ledama Olekina who served as her deputy.<\/p>\n

The minority side also picked Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Olekina’s deputy. Madzayo said he attached necessary documents including minutes of the meeting that endorsed the changes.<\/p>\n

Speaking in the debating chamber on Wednesday, he said that the speaker’s silence on the changes has created a vacuum in the leadership of the minority wing in the House.<\/p>\n

Olekina also protested the speaker’s silence. However, Garissa Senator Abdul Haji faulted the minority’s move to remove Dullo saying that decision was too rushed.<\/p>\n

Haji said that Dullo’s removal on account of meeting President William Ruto amounts to double standards as the same action has not been taken against governors who met the head of state.<\/p>\n

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has confirmed receiving a letter from the minority leader announcing changes to the leadership of the wing. He, however, said that he received the communication late last evening and that the same was being processed.<\/p>\n

“It was received beyond 5 pm. That communication is being processed in the usual manner,” he said.<\/p>\n

“I take it as disorderly by the minority leader to stand in front and frog match that the chair makes the communication now and now,” he said.<\/p>\n

Kingi said that while communicating the changes, he will also be giving a ruling on the matter after some minority senators (Jubilee) protested the move.<\/p>\n
