Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>MPs have been asked to reduce the number of visitors within precincts of Parliament in new security arrangement announced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula.<\/p>\n

In a communication to the House, Wetang’ula said the security measures may lead to discomfort and inconveniences to legislators. \u201cI request all honourable members to accommodate the discomfort and cooperate with the agencies charged with the responsibility of providing security,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Wetang\u2019ula said MPs should reduce the number of their visitors at any time and in all places including restaurants. \u201cAs you may be aware, there has been heightened security arrangement within the precincts of Parliament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

“The objective is to provide the necessary security and protection services to all members, staff and visitors. The precincts of Parliament should at all times be a secure environment.”<\/p>\n

The speaker asked MPs to accord the necessary support to officers from the Serjeant-at-Arms, Safety and Security Department of Parliament and the Officer Commanding Parliament Police Station.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese officers are also mandated to conduct stringent screening of members\u2019 vehicles before allowing access into the precincts of Parliament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He instructed the Serjeant-at-Arms, Safety and Security Department of Parliament and Officer Commanding Parliament Police Station to enforce security arrangement measures at all times.<\/p>\n
