Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Azimio leader Raila Odinga has invited all Kenyans, regardless of their religious affiliation to a prayer day on Wednesday, February 22. The event will be held at Jevanjee Gardens.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Thursday, the ODM leader said the service will be different from the one conducted by President William Ruto on Tuesday. “We urge all our supporters and Kenyans at large to join us. It will be an interdenominational service, Christians, Muslims, Hindus and traditionalists,” he said.<\/p>\n

Raila said the prayers will focus on the national challenges. “We will also pray to God for guidance as Kenya is delivered from these times to a better chapter,” he added.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Raila had said the service was to be held at the Anniversary Towers, the headquarters of IEBC, to pray for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.<\/p>\n

“We will also be doing a prayer for the IEBC to have a better electoral agency to defend the rights of our people. That prayer will be done in front of the premises of IEBC (at Anniversary Towers),” he said.<\/p>\n

The parallel prayers by the opposition comes after they criticised President William Ruto for leading national prayers at the Nyayo Stadium on Valentine’s Day.<\/p>\n

“We have shown beyond any doubt that the elections were rigged. It doesn’t matter how many times Ruto shouts, or how many times he prays. The prayer is not going to help him to get away with theft of elections,” Raila said. Raila claims he won the August 9 presidential polls with 8.1 million votes against Ruto’s 5.9 million.<\/p>\n
