Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Lawyer Cliff Ombeta has weighed in on the summons issued to his colleague Danstan Omari by the DCI over the alleged police raid at former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s home.<\/p>\n

Omari is required to appear before the DCI Wednesday morning at 9.30 am.<\/p>\n

But despite Omari saying that he will honour the summons, Ombeta said fellow lawyers will not allow that to happen.<\/p>\n

“Danstan Omari under siege. This one nayo tutakataa! Liwe liwalo. (This we shall resist, no matter the consequences,” he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Omari has been summoned to appear before Senior Superintendent Charles Sang over the alleged raid on the night of February 8.<\/p>\n

Of interest to the police are the allegations the lawyer made while at Matiang’i’s residence that a “battalion” and or a “garrison” of police officers had invaded the home for purpose of wanting to arrest the former CS.<\/p>\n

The DCI issued a statement over the matter and denied having set foot at the home on the day alleged but admitted that the former powerful CS was indeed under investigation.<\/p>\n

“For the record, I can confirm that none of the cases under investigation so far have reached the stage, which requires the assistance or attendance of Dr Matiang’i,” DCI boss Mohamed Amin said in a press statement on February 9.<\/p>\n

While speaking to the press on the night in question, Omari said the ex-CS’s life was under threat.<\/p>\n

“So, I can confirm to every Kenyan in this country that the life of Matiang’i is at risk. We don’t know the intention of wanting to invade the home of Matiang’i at this hour of the night,” Omari said.<\/p>\n

He added that about 200 lawyers had cordoned off the home to ensure the police don’t get in.<\/p>\n

Following the summon on Tuesday, Omari read malice in the whole issue saying he acted in his capacity as Matiang’i’s lawyer.<\/p>\n

“I took an oath to defend my clients within the law. I took up the matter for the CS Matiang’i as my client,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The only constant factor is that lawyers will never refuse to represent a client because of politics, so I will be here,” Omari affirmed.<\/p>\n
