Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kericho Woman Rep Beatrice Kemei is calling for investigations into the allegations of sexual harassment of female workers in tea estates in the county.<\/p>\n

Kemei asked if prompt investigations could be carried out into the heinous acts that have recently come to the limelight.<\/p>\n

“We must ensure that the culpable perpetrators are brought to book and justice is served,” she said.<\/p>\n

Sexual exploitation was uncovered on tea farms that supply some of the UK’s most popular brands after an investigative deep dive was done by the BBC and released on Monday.<\/p>\n

More than 70 women on Kenyan tea farms, owned for years by two British companies, told the BBC they had been sexually abused by their supervisors.<\/p>\n

Secret filming showed local bosses, on plantations, pressuring an undercover reporter for sex.<\/p>\n

Three managers have now been suspended.<\/p>\n

Kemei called on the Departmental Committee on Labour to provide concrete information on the allegations of sexual harassment of female workers to the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

“Could the chair explain what measures the government is putting in place to protect the rights of female workers in these tea estates?” She demanded.<\/p>\n

She further demanded measures the government is putting in place to ensure these tea estates adhere to labor laws and implement policies on sexual harassment are fully explained to the House.<\/p>\n

“It is high time that the rights and dignity of female workers are upheld and respected by male bosses in tea estates,” she said.<\/p>\n
