Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Second Lady Dorcas Gachagua has said the future of the country lies in saving the boychild from destructive habits like drug abuse and alcoholism.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a burial service in Murang’a on Thursday, the second lady said marriages are breaking up as young men are neglecting their families in preference of alcohol and substance abuse.<\/p>\n

“Boychild is the carrier of the seed, he is the one that is carrying the seed for the future of this nation. And therefore if we are going to change this country, we must save our boy children,” she said.<\/p>\n

Dorcas said it’s time for the country to put a stop to drug and alcohol addiction among the country’s young male population to salvage the country’s future.<\/p>\n

She said oftentimes, the burden of trying to raise drug-addicted children has been left to mothers as fathers have abandoned their parental obligation.<\/p>\n

“But when it comes to a mother, you push with that child. We want our country to become great by saving the boychild as a Church and as a clergy here, we are going to take that very seriously,” the second lady said.<\/p>\n

She said the time is up for all those involved in selling drugs and alcohol and other addictive substances to young men in the country.<\/p>\n

“If they are going to sell alcohol, let them sell that which is not poison and that which will not poison our children,” Dorcas said.<\/p>\n

Incidences of drug and alcohol abuse and related anti-social behaviour have tremendously increased in recent years.<\/p>\n

The menace has largely been blamed for failed marriages, where alcohol abuse has taken a toll on most young men.<\/p>\n
