Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto on Thursday met elected leaders from Kajiado, Narok, Laikipia, Samburu and Marsabit at State House, Nairobi. Through a statement, State House said the leaders discussed matters insecurity and investing in water harvests to enable growth of the areas.<\/p>\n

“These are the main keys to unlocking the full prosperity of the Arid and Semi-Arid lands,” the statement read.<\/p>\n

The President also said the planned construction of 100 mega and 1000 small dams will transform irrigation and provide water for livestock in the affected areas.<\/p>\n

On February 12, Ruto said the government will use all the available resources to ensure no lives are lost to the bandits who have continued to terrorize parts of the country, especially the North Rift.<\/p>\n

\u201cProf Kithure Kindiki is not here because he is in that region. Today he was in Baringo, yesterday he was in Turkana,\u201d Ruto said.<\/p>\n

In October 2022, Ruto instructed Water Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome to start implementing the project of building 100 dams which will be done with the partnership of the private sector.<\/p>\n

Ruto said the previous government had planned to construct 57 dams but only succeeded to establish five due to politics. \u201cWe will be moving a bit fast now and we have a public-private instrument that will support our dam-building efforts and water harvesting programme,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
