Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has mocked Opposition Leader Raila Odinga over his recent shift from African Union.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, the DP told Raila that his recent actions of holding demonstrations against the government led him to lose his job.<\/p>\n

“These demonstrations are making this man(Raila) go at a loss. He had a big job in African Union infrastructure. He left the job and decided to go for demonstrations and now he has been chased away from AU,” Gachagua said.<\/p>\n

The DP stated that protests have caused Raila losses over the years but still persist on them.<\/p>\n

“These protests have truly caused him (Raila) a lot. He has done this for 20 years and every day he is going at loss. When he was being looked for by AU to do his job, he was not found. Now see he is jobless,” he added.<\/p>\n

In a letter dated February 19, African Union Commission president Moussa Faki announced the end of Raila’s tenure as special envoy.<\/p>\n

Faki commended the ODM leader for accepting the role, adding that Raila’s leadership has been key to leveraging infrastructure as a key priority in the continent.<\/p>\n

“The transformation of the NEPAD Agency to the African Union Development Agency has now been completed, with a full mandate to implement the Continental agenda on infrastructure,” Faki said.<\/p>\n

Raila was appointed the High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa role in October 2018.<\/p>\n

Raila explained why he wanted to be out of the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development role in Africa.<\/p>\n

He said he expressed his desire to be allowed time to attend to other matters that need his attention.<\/p>\n

“I asked to be relieved about three weeks ago.”<\/p>\n
