Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Members of the National Assembly are some of the biggest winners in last-minute changes to the Supplementary Budget.<\/p>\n

The lawmakers were allocated an additional Sh100 million, increasing their additional budget request approval to Sh200 million.<\/p>\n

The adjustments were contained in the supplementary budget appropriation bill, 2023 that was approved on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The bill once assented to, will give the National Treasury the legal mandate to withdraw additional funds amounting to Sh201 billion from the Consolidated Fund.<\/p>\n

The MPs had on Tuesday burnt the midnight oil to pass the first Supplementary Budget for the 2022\/23 financial year.<\/p>\n

The National Assembly on Wednesday approved over Sh201 billion in additional spending for the government in the year ending June 2023.<\/p>\n

In the appropriations bill, 2023, the budget committee made a number of changes to the supplementary budget approved on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau moved the amendment to give the National Assembly the Sh100 million additional funds.<\/p>\n

He also moved an amendment to increase the supplementary budget for the Parliamentary Joint Services from Sh300 million to Sh400 million.<\/p>\n

The House had on Tuesday been allocated Sh300 million.<\/p>\n

The money will go towards General Administration, Planning and Support Services in respect of development estimates.<\/p>\n

Also affected by the changes is the department of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation with its water storage and flood control budget increased from Sh491 million to Sh591 million.<\/p>\n

President William Ruto is expected to assent to the bill into law to pave the way for the government to spend Sh201 billion more.<\/p>\n
