Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Comedian Eric Omondi was arrested on Wednesday, March 1 while distributing maize flour to his supporters at City Stadium in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are interrogating him and about five others who were arrested.<\/p>\n

The renowned comedian turned activist had invited his fans to come for a packet of maize flour ahead of his planned demonstrations at State House next week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Wednesday we meet at City Stadium from 11 am to 2 pm as we share a packet of unga with everyone that intends to join us at State House. We are calling upon well-wishers to donate unga,\u201d Omondi said on Monday.<\/p>\n

While being arrested, Omondi defended himself, arguing that most Kenyans are facing economic hardships.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost Kenyans are hungry. I was just distributing this unga to needy cases,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He was taken to the Industrial Area police station ahead of the planned arraignment.<\/p>\n

The popular comedian was arrested Tuesday last week after attempting to storm into Parliament buildings with a group of shirtless muscular men donning black shorts.<\/p>\n

Omondi was later freed on a Sh10,000 cash bail after he pleaded not guilty to taking part in an unlawful assembly.<\/p>\n

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga defended Omondi\u2019s demonstrations during the National Prayers last week, stating that Kenyans have a right to protest and should be protected by the police while in demonstrations.<\/p>\n
