Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Safaricom has increased its 5G coverage to 28 towns across 21 counties as the race for ultra-fast Internet speed gathers momentum.<\/p>\n

Counties covered now include Nairobi, Kiambu, Mombasa, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Garissa, Kajiado, Kisii, Machakos, Kakamega, Kilifi, Siaya, Kericho, Kwale, Laikipia, Marsabit, Meru, Narok, Nyeri and Vihiga.<\/p>\n

Following the move around 400,000 subscribers are now able to tap into speeds between 400Mbps to 700Mbps.<\/p>\n

The move has been fuelled by the increased adoption of 5G devices with Kenya having nearly 300,000 5G-phone users, according to the latest data from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), released last month.<\/p>\n

Safaricom has also introduced 5G data bundles to enable its customers using 5G smartphones to browse.<\/p>\n

“We are excited about a 5G future, which makes it possible to close the digital divide in underserved communities, provide access to critical services such as healthcare or spur economic growth by connecting small businesses to new opportunities,\u201d said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.<\/p>\n

Late last year the telco said that the bundles for 5G browsing were to be released in January this year.<\/p>\n

To enable Kenyans experience how 5G can transform homes and businesses, Safaricom, in partnership with Huawei, has set up three 5G-experience centres in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

The centres, located at Safaricom\u2019s Village Market, The Hub and Buruburu shops contain virtual reality gaming zones that showcase smart-capabilities for homes and enterprises, and speed-testing booths.<\/p>\n

In October 2022, Safaricom became the first service provider in Kenya to launch 5G.<\/p>\n
