Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Kenya Under-20 rugby team have been drawn against Spain, Samoa, and Hong Kong in the Junior World Rugby Trophy set for July at Nyayo Stadium. Pool A will see Scotland battle it out against Uruguay, Zimbabwe, Canada, or the USA.<\/p>\n

The winner of the tournament in Nairobi will play in the Junior Rugby World Cup in 2024. The team, popularly known as Chipu, finished second in the Barthes Cup, losing 28-7 to holders Zimbabwe in the final on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Chipu’s assistant coach Louis Kisai said they have to go back to the drawing board to be sharper for the world event in two months’ time Top on the agenda for the squad will be to improve the team’s conditioning and defence pattern which were exposed by the slick Zimbabwe outfit in the final on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur conditioning will have to be the first thing we look at when we resume training. Zimbabwe looked fitter and stronger than us. They had trained for a year for this tournament and that really gave them the edge over us” added Kisia<\/p>\n

Kisia, who doubles up as the Strathmore Leos coach, said there is adequate time to correct other facets of play which went wrong in the final. \u201cOur defence patterns must be stronger and our handling and tactical will have to be re-looked at. I believe there is enough time to correct these mistakes in the short window we have,” noted Kisia.<\/p>\n

Kisia, however, lauded the team’s achievement in the week-long tournament which saw them beat Uganda 44-20 and stun former champions Namibia 24-13 in the semifinals.<\/p>\n

“Credit to the boys for the hard work they put in the short time we prepared. I believe going forward, the union will support the team fully,” observed Kisia<\/p>\n

Chipu will play build-up matches against Kenya Cup sides or an international side, according to the coach. \u201cFor preparation, the team needs to get matches under its belt to be competitive and we will get better,” he noted.<\/p>\n

Namibia took the bronze medal after coming from behind to beat Tunisia 25-20 while Ivory Coast edged Zambia 27-20 with Uganada avoiding relegation by beating Madagascar 21-17.<\/p>\n
