Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Webuye East MP Martin Pepela has rubbished claims by the Opposition that there’s a plot to assassinate Azimio leaders Raila Odinga and Martha Karua over their street protests.<\/p>\n

The first term Ford Kenya lawmaker termed the allegations made by Raila ahead of their protests last week as unfounded. “President Ruto has no need to assassinate Raila Odinga,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to the MP, Ruto’s recent stern warning to take action against anyone inciting chaos in the country instilled fear in Azimio leaders. The MP said that Ruto would not waste his time assassinating the opposition bosses since he is focused on transforming the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n

“Let this Azimio leaders give us a break,” he said.<\/p>\n

Pepela spoke during a thanksgiving prayer and celebration for Samburu woman rep Pauline Lenguris, at Lodokejek Catholic Mission grounds in Samburu West constituency, Samburu County on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by, among others, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and a host of MPs. Last Sunday, Raila listed Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Trade CS Moses Kuria as those plotting to assassinate him and other Opposition leaders.<\/p>\n

“The latest grim warring has come from William Ruto who yesterday vowed to stop the planned demonstrations at all costs and declared them nonsense,\u201d the former Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n

During development tours in Kajiado and Kakamega last week, Ruto warned the opposition against violent and destructive protests and reminded them that he was the commander-in-chief.<\/p>\n

“I understand they want to go to Nairobi CBD to destroy people\u2019s property, to cause violence. I want to tell you, my friends, that will not happen,\u201d he said in Ongata Rongai on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the President of Kenya. And if you want to continue mtajua hamjui (You will know you don\u2019t know),\u201d he added. Pepela commended the President for standing firm against the protests which he said have led to deaths and destruction of property.<\/p>\n

Azimio on Wednesday called off the mass protests slated for Thursday saying they were giving the bipartisan talks a chance. Azimio co-principal and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said this was on condition that Kenya Kwanza withdraws Aldas MP Adan Keynan from their talks team. Keynan was elected on a Jubilee party ticket but has since pledged allegiance to Kenya Kwanza.<\/p>\n
