Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Eldoret will host a leg of the national sevens series for the first time since 2018, Kenya Rugby Union have announced While announcing the calendar for the new season, KRU revealed that Eldoret will host the series opener between June 24 and 25.<\/p>\n

A week later, the series will head to Kisumu for the Dala Sevens with the third series, Driftwood Sevens, set for Mombasa between July 8 and 9. The circuit will take a one-month break to resume on August 5-6 with the Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru. The Christie Sevens leg is slated for August 12-13 at the RFUEA Ground with Kabeberi Sevens concluding the season on August 19-20.<\/p>\n

Menengai Oilers are the defending champions having bagged 113 points last year after winning the Prinsloo leg and finishing runners-up in four tournaments. KCB were second on 107 points and Strathmore Leos third with 100.<\/p>\n

Oilers coach Gibson Weru said they have started preparation for their title defence after missing out on silverware in the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup, where they lost in the semifinals to KCB and Kabras respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have started our preparations for the Sevens series. It’s going to be very competitive now that the established team like KCB, Strathmore Homeboyz and Mwamba are all interested. We must stay ahead of them,” said Weru.<\/p>\n

It is expected that the circuit will provide a hunting ground for Shujaa technical bench, especially after the emergence of Oilers’ Dennis Abukuse as well as Strathmore Leos’ George Ooro and Brunson Madigu last season.<\/p>\n
