Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) members have petitioned the National Executive Council (NEC) to convene a meeting over allegations of misuse of party funds.<\/p>\n

The members further called on the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties to invite Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to audit party accounts.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoney has been withdrawn and spent for personal interests by the leadership of the party,\u201d claimed a delegate and NEC member who declined to be named.<\/p>\n

The members are concerned that the party is micromanaged by a few individuals who are from one region. “DAP-K is not a Bukusu affair. The entire structure and leadership of the party are drawn from one region,\u201d another party delegate said.<\/p>\n

DAP-K membership is mostly made up of a breakaway faction from the Ford-Kenya stronghold in Bungoma. DAP-K was formed towards the last election to dislodge Ford-Kenya in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties.<\/p>\n

Wrangles have since rocked the party and some members have threatened to leave. Members have given the party organ until Friday to call the NEC meeting to chat the way forward.<\/p>\n

The squabbles come as Ford-Kenya secretary general John Chikati is planning a major recruitment drive. He has since extended an olive branch to those who had left the party for other outfits saying Ford-Kenya\u2019s doors are open.<\/p>\n

DAP-K secretary general Simiyu Eseli has acknowledged having received the complaint from party delegates. He said the matter will be handled by the party NEC and National Governing Council in a meeting to be conveyed on Friday. He said the meeting will seek to give the party a national outlook and representation.<\/p>\n
