Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has lashed out at lawyer Danstan Omari over a suit he had allegedly filed against him for libel. The Kikuyu MP said he even though he learnt about the suit via the media as he was never served with the suit papers, he was ready to face the lawyer in court.<\/p>\n

In a statement on his Twitter handle, the MP said it was regrettable for him to learn, again via the media, that Omari had since withdrawn the case. “I am the last man to be intimidated and someone must desist from using my name for attention seeking media theatrics! Prosecute cases in Court not in media houses!” Ichung’wah said.<\/p>\n

In April, Omari sued the Kikuyu MP demanding Sh11 million in damages over claims that he allegedly said he (Omari) frequents Koinange Street. The street right in the heart of Nairobi CBD is infamous for call girls.<\/p>\n

The advocate, through lawyer Brian Mabeya, had written a demand letter to Ichung’wah giving him seven days to retract and apologise but he refused. Ichung’wah is alleged to have tweeted \u201cPhew! At least am known in Kikuyu by my people unlike the fake media-based liar only known along Koinange Street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Omari said the tweet could potentially ruin his life by planting seeds of doubt and hate in the hearts and minds of people since he is a married man. The lawyer also prayed in his suit for the court to restrain Ichungw’ah from further publishing or causing to be published words defamatory to him.<\/p>\n

Omari, however, withdrew the suit via a notice of withdrawal filed on April 27, 2023, two days after the matter was filed. “Take notice that the Applicant\/Plaintiff herein gives notice and wholly intends to withdraw the Application and Plaint they filed dated 25 April 2023, pursuant to Order 25 Rule 1 of the Civil Procedure Rules 2010,” Musyoki Mogaka and Co. Advocates. The notice of withdrawal which listed Omari as plaintiff and Ichung’wah defendant was served to Osogo, Onyiego and Manyara Advocates.<\/p>\n
