Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The registrar of political parties has written to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta seeking his response over a resolution by Jubilee to kick him out as party leader.<\/p>\n

In the letter, The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) Anne Nderitu wants Uhuru to respond within 7 days. This is in relation to the resolutions of a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that replaced him with Nominated MP Sabina Chege in an acting capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe office is in the process of evaluating the documents and the substance of the resolutions therein against the Political Parties Act, 2021, and the Jubilee Party constitution,\u201d Nderitu said in the letter dated May 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of the above, the documents pertaining to the meeting are hereby forwarded for your information, response and other action. You are expected to submit your response within seven days of the date herein to allow this office to complete the evaluation and address the substance of the matter.”<\/p>\n

Therefore, it is expected that Uhuru files his defence before Nderitu’s office to resolve the leadership wrangles in the former ruling party. ORPP is set to decide whether Uhuru was lawfully kicked out of the party.<\/p>\n

The office is also expected to decide on whether he should be disciplined by the party for alleged gross misconduct of convening a parallel NEC meeting.<\/p>\n

In another letter, the EALA MP Kanini Kega faction on Friday issued summons to Uhuru to appear before a disciplinary committee over alleged gross misconduct.<\/p>\n

The retired President was given two days to respond to some of the accusations levelled against him before he can be dragged to make a physical appearance before the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake notice that a dispute has been filed against you and received by the Internal Dispute Resolution Committee. You are hereby required to file your response, together with any supporting documentation, with the committee within two days of this notification,\u201d they said in a letter to the former head of state.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou shall be notified of a hearing date when you shall be accorded an opportunity to be heard before the committee makes its final determination on the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an earlier letter, Kega had informed the ORPP that Uhuru stood suspended for gross misconduct, adding that there were plans to drag him before the Jubilee disciplinary committee for flouting the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n

Leadership wrangles have rocked the former ruling party since early this year. In February, at least 32 Jubilee MPs met with President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua at State House.<\/p>\n

The Jubilee legislators pledged to work and support President Ruto’s led government. This was despite Jubilee being a member of the Azimio la Umoja One coalition which is led by opposition chief Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n

What followed next was a purported ouster of Jubilee secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni, by a faction of members led by EALA MP Kanini Kega. The two sides have since engaged in power wrangles.<\/p>\n

In a notice dated April 4, Uhuru summoned Jubilee delegates for a special NDC on May 22 at the Kenya International Convention Centre which has been cancelled by Kega.<\/p>\n
