Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nandi senator Samson Cherargei has said that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta should be ready to face the law.<\/p>\n

The senator said the former head of state is breaking the law by continuing to engage in political party affairs.<\/p>\n

He said this goes against the requirements of the retired president’s benefits act.<\/p>\n

“Under the President Retirement Benefits Act, Uhuru does not qualify to preside over any political parties affairs. This is a clear violation of the law he signed a few years ago. He must be ready to face full consequences of violating the law,” Cherargei said.<\/p>\n

Section 4(b)(ii) of the Presidential Benefits Retirement Act, 2003 states that, “Notwithstanding the provisions of section 3, the National Assembly may, on a motion supported by the votes of not less than two-thirds of the members thereof, resolve that a retired President or his surviving spouse, as the case may be, shall not be entitled to the whole or any part of the benefits conferred by this Act, on the grounds that the retired President has, since ceasing to hold office held office in, or actively engaged in the activities of any political party contrary to the provisions of section 6(1).”<\/p>\n

His remarks come ahead of Jubilee’s National Delegates Convention set for Monday.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Uhuru said the new venue for the delegates’ conference will be at Ngong Race Course in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

“Notice is hereby given that the venue of the Jubilee NDC has been moved to Ngong Race Course, Nairobi. All other details remain as per the notice published on April 29,” Uhuru said in a new notice.<\/p>\n

Uhuru called for the conference following endless wrangles in the Jubilee party.<\/p>\n

Jubilee had planned to hold the conference at the Bomas of Kenya, the Kasarani Indoor Auditorium, and the ASK Show Ground Hall.<\/p>\n

But access to all these venues was denied to the party, with the management saying there were ongoing renovations.<\/p>\n

The Kega faction and another led by Jeremiah Kioni have been fighting for the soul of the former ruling party.<\/p>\n
