Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>KCB Group Plc Board has elected the immediate former head of public service, Joseph Kinyua, as the new chairman with effect.<\/p>\n

His appointment comes barely two months after he was elected to the board in March.<\/p>\n

He takes over as Group Chairman from Andrew Kairu who has retired, having been at the helm of the largest bank in East Africa in terms of asset base for the past five years.<\/p>\n

Kinyua has an illustrious career spanning over four decades in public service and has a wealth of experience in public administration, economic planning, and policy direction.<\/p>\n

He is credited with effectively holding a pivotal role in implementing key government initiatives and reforms, including the liberalization of the banking sector, the foreign exchange market and the trade and capital accounts of the balance of payments, among other initiatives.<\/p>\n

Prior to his appointment as the head of Public Services in 2013, he had served in various senior positions in the government, including as permanent secretary to the National Treasury.<\/p>\n

His appointment heralds a new dawn for KCB Group\u2019s corporate governance journey as he brings onboard deep financial services expertise and extensive public service management experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful for the confidence shown by the members in electing me to serve as chairman and look forward to working together to propel KCB Group to even greater heights in the region,” Kinyua said.<\/p>\n

His predecessor, Andrew Kairu on his part said it was an honour to serve the KCB Group.<\/p>\n

“I leave behind a strong, diverse, and competent board that will continue to drive the business to achieve and sustain its strategic objectives and a seamless transition to ensure continuity,” Kairu said.<\/p>\n
