Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged President William Ruto not to pay attention to those opposing the 3 percent housing levy. Speaking in Embu on Friday, Gachagua said those who criticise the project will never appreciate the president’s achievement.<\/p>\n

“Don’t worry about these people making noise about the housing fund. No matter what you do they can’t see. And if they don’t want to see, let them shut their eyes so that work can continue,” Gachagua told Ruto.<\/p>\n

Gachagua said the affordable housing projects will put an end to the crop-up of slums in the country. He challenged the critics to come up with a better alternative strategy to help reduce the crop up of slums in the country.<\/p>\n

“We are inviting our critics, if they find affordable housing cannot solve the issue of the crop up of slums, to give us their plan,” the Deputy President said.<\/p>\n

Gachagua reiterated that the Affordable Housing project will create employment for the idle youth in the country. “These critics, what is their plan to get our youth employment?” he posed.<\/p>\n

He said they should not just criticise without giving an alternative. Gachagua claimed there are people who are out to ensure the Affordable Housing project does not work.<\/p>\n

He urged the people of Embu to support the Housing project for their own benefit as well as that of the entire nation. The three percent Housing Levy has sparked public debate drawing mixed reactions among Kenyans.<\/p>\n

The levy is part of the proposed Finance Bill 2023 which is currently undergoing public participation. After Kenyans take part in public participation, the Finance Bill will be tabled in parliament before it is passed or opposed by members of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n
