Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Western Jaguars coach Mike Malungu has said the team is keen to make Eregi Teachers Training College home ground a fortress.<\/p>\n

Malungu’s sentiments come after a pair of victories in their Kakamega backyard over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Jaguars, who finished third in the Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League last season, annihilated Wazalendo 4-0 on Saturday before rounding off the weekend with a 3-0 win over Strathmore Gladiators.<\/p>\n

“We want to make life difficult for our opponents when we play at home. The target is to win all our home matches but we are also comfortable playing in another venue, whether Nairobi or Mombasa,” Malungu, who doubles up as the national men’s under-21 coach said.<\/p>\n

Derrick Juma, Willis Malesi and Calistus Muyale scored in the win over the Gladiators.<\/p>\n

Jaguars are yet to taste defeat in their five opening matches, winning four.<\/p>\n

A return of three clean sheets is down to defensive improvement according to the gaffer, who credits the impressive results to maturity and tactical flexibility.<\/p>\n

Malungu, however, demands fluidity in attack, which will be key in converting the numerous chances created.<\/p>\n

“It was tough to break down our opponents. Our resilience and adjustment to playing style in the second half made the difference. Our rivals were organised in the way they played,” Malungu observed.<\/p>\n

“The team dug deep in difficult moments, waited for their time and delivered the goods. Both goalkeepers did well in the game. Defensively, we are doing good but we are still far away from what we are trying to achieve”<\/p>\n

He went on: “We want to become the meanest defence in the league. Mental strength has improved. We were among the three teams with least goals conceded last season and we hope to work on that. Offensively, we have to score goals. That is the business of strikers but the whole team must shoulder the goal-scoring burden”.<\/p>\n

Malungu said focus is bettering their third-place finish last season.<\/p>\n

The Gladiators, on the other hand, have registered mixed fortunes in their opening six matches. Inconsistency is a problem for Meshack Senge’ side.<\/p>\n

The 2016 champions have mastered two wins, two draws and as many losses. The students are fifth on the 10-team log with eight points.<\/p>\n
