Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission forwarded 23 files to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the first quarter of the year. In a report covering investigations undertaken between January 1, to March 31, EACC said among the 23, 18 files recommended for prosecution while five recommended closure.<\/p>\n

The report by EACC chairperson David Oginde and CEO Twalib Mbarak is dated May 22, 2023. Of the 18 files on prosecution, only one was accepted. One where prosecution was declined was recommended for administrative action.<\/p>\n

The Commission said four recommendations for closure were accepted. The ODPP send back 17 files for further investigations. The files returned included cases of bribery, defying tender procurement laws in counties, irregular recruitment, embezzlement of public funds and abuse of office.<\/p>\n

It states that: “The Commission shall prepare quarterly reports setting out the number of reports made to the Director of Public Prosecutions under section 35 and such other statistical information relating to those reports as the Commission considers appropriate.”<\/p>\n

A copy of the report has been forwarded to Attorney General Justin Muturi for tabling before the National Assembly. This is also in accordance with the aforementioned section.<\/p>\n
