Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nzoia Sugar head coach Salim Babu is still convinced they have a mathematical chance to crack their maiden Kenyan Premier League title this season despite being five points adrift leaders of Tusker.<\/p>\n

The Millers have experienced their best season in the competition thus far, amassing 60 points from 31 matches and even calling the shots at the apex of the log at some point in the season.<\/p>\n

However, their 1-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks in their last outing dealt their title aspirations a huge blow but Babu reckons they can bounce back strongly in their three remaining encounters to lay claim to a first title.<\/p>\n

“It’s a matter of staying focused and keeping the momentum going. As things stand now, the competition is still open and any of the three top teams can run away with the title this season,” Babu said.<\/p>\n

The veteran tactician, who joined the topflight side from second-tier minnows Kisumu Allstars at the beginning of this season, has surpassed his employers’ expectations with his sublime performance in the cutthroat league.<\/p>\n

He was brought in with express instructions to salvage the side from the jaws of relegation but went out of his way to turn the team around into title contenders.<\/p>\n

“I’m happy with what we have achieved in the league to date. Our objective at the beginning of the season was to ensure we remain in the league. Nobody was talking about winning the league. Nobody even dreamt we would be anywhere in the top half of the table,” Babu said.<\/p>\n

“We are now serious about winning the league. It looks so much more possible now than ever before. The gap between us and leaders Tusker is only five points and with three matches still left on the card, we could live our dream of claiming the first top-flight silverware in the club’s history,” Babu said.<\/p>\n

There are already rumours that he might be on his way out of the Bungoma-based side, something he remains so much coy about.<\/p>\n

“I’m not aware of any club that is interested in giving me a job. If at all there is any, then I’ll let you know. As of now, I remain the head coach of Nzoia and my focus is to bag maximum points from our remaining encounters,” Babu said.<\/p>\n

He will be leading an onslaught against a side that heads into the encounter high on confidence after stunning 13-time Kenyan champions AFC Leopards 2-1 at Nyayo stadium on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“We know City Stars are a good side but we have prepared well for any sort of challenge they may pose in the match. As I said earlier, we are going for nothing short of a win in the match. We don’t have a choice if we want to remain in contention,” Babu said.<\/p>\n
