This year&#8217;s World Environmental Day theme is &#8216;BeatPlasticPollution&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>He said environmental conservation goes beyond tree planting. \u201cEarth\u2019s beauty and varied landscapes move us to think about better ways of protecting the planet for future generations. Environmental conservation goes beyond tree planting,\u201d said Diaz.<\/p>\n<p>They planted over 700 fruit trees plus another 600 indigenous trees within the school compound. The stakeholders said the program is specifically for educational institutions to inculcate a culture of conservation of Kenya\u2019s green cover amongst learners at an early age.<\/p>\n<p>They do this while supplementing the students\u2019 dietary needs through the planting of fruit trees within the schools. Bidco also announced its move of reducing material use and eliminating unnecessary plastics as a way of environmental conservation.<\/p>\n<p>They said they had taken a step of eliminating top seals on water products and adopted new lightweight packaging technology to eliminate unnecessary plastics and improve recyclability.<\/p>\n<p>BIDCORO\u2019s Chief Operating Officer Mads Burmester on the other hand said 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced annually. He said 40 pieces of the plastic produced are single use yet less than 10pc of that is recycled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlastic is not the problem, the problem is we don\u2019t recycle. Let us begin to pick up, minimum one piece of plastic per day, recycle it and again from strength to strength in building a pollution-free planet,&#8221; Burmester said.
