Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nondescripts RFC will be seeking to improve on their ninth-place finish at last year’s national Sevens circuit when the new season kicks off next month.<\/p>\n

Head coach Callum Oliver said the team has been hard at work in preparations for the season, whose June 24 kick off has been pushed forward by a week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe boys have been working very hard on their conditioning and fitness courtesy of experienced strength and conditioning coach, Jeff Onyango,” said Oliver.<\/p>\n

“We are also brushing up on our tactics in both defence and attack.” The Englishman expressed confidence in the team\u2019s young players, saying he has observed remarkable improvement from last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been a lot of maturity within the squad with big growth in the players\u2019 skills and understanding of the game,” said Oliver, adding that they will be targeting quarterfinal slots in the shorter version of the game.<\/p>\n

“Many of the players gained experience during the previous circuit as well as the KRU Championship success.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe do not expect any easy games or tournaments since there will be a lot of travels, including two back-to-back legs outside Nairobi. This will give the players less time to recover but we will work hard to enjoy and play to our potential,” he revealed.<\/p>\n

Nondies have also plunged into the transfer market, securing the services of mercurial fly-half Bruce Odhiambo from Mean Machine. Oliver added that former Shujaa international, Charles Omondi will make his Sevens debut for the Ngong\u2019 Racecourse-based club after missing out on last year’s action through injury.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Oliver revealed that they will miss the services of three core players, who have since left the country for various individual commitments.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have three players currently in the USA. Benson Salem is in Texas for the Premier Rugby 7s while Alvin Marube is with the San Clemente Rhinos. We will also miss Samuel Motari, who is pursuing his Master\u2019s Degree (at Grand Valley State University),\u201d said Oliver.<\/p>\n

He, however, exuded confidence that his young charges will step into the big shoes to fill the voids. Oliver believes the likes of champions Menengai Oilers, KCB, Kabras and Mwamba will be their toughest opponents in the circuit.<\/p>\n
