Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto’s government has allocated Sh25.5 billion capitation for Junior secondary schools. This is according to the Budget estimates presented in Parliament by Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung\u2019u on Thursday.<\/p>\n

In addition, the government has allocated Sh65.4 billion towards free day secondary education. The amount will also cater to the health of students under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).<\/p>\n

The government allocated Sh12.5 billion for free primary education. Last financial year, former President Uhuru Kenyatta\u2019s government allocated Sh64.4 billion to free day secondary education, which was also inclusive of NHIF medical cover for students.<\/p>\n

A further Sh5 billion was set aside to cater for examination fees waiver for Grade 6, Class 8 and Form 4 candidates. The same amount has also been allocated in this year\u2019s budget.<\/p>\n

In February, the Ministry of Education raised concerns after more than 200,000 learners failed to report for Grade 7 admission. Learners in Grade 7 are the pioneer class of Junior Secondary School under the Competency-Based Curriculum.<\/p>\n

Some Sh1.3 billion will be utilised in training teachers on CBC under the new budget. The CS further proposed an allocation of Sh1.9 billion for the construction and equipment of technical training institutions and vocational training centres.<\/p>\n

He said a further Sh1.8 billion will be allocated to improve access and improve training in vocational training institutions. A total of Sh2.7 billion has been allocated for secondary education quality improvement project and Sh5.2 billion as capitation for TVET students.<\/p>\n
