Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Malkia Strikers are expected to start a non-residential training camp on Monday at the Nyayo Stadium, coach Paul Bitok has said.<\/p>\n

The 20-member provisional squad was expected to start training at the start of the month in readiness for the Challenger Cup in France as well as the Africa Nations Championships in Cameroon, in August.<\/p>\n

However, training was delayed to sort out the visa issues according to Bitok who said the matter has been partially resolved.<\/p>\n

“The team has the visa to go to Morocco for training under the FIVB program. We are now waiting for the visas from Morrocco to France but the team will definitely start training on Monday,” Bitok said.<\/p>\n

Bitok, who guided Malkia to the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games, said the squad will be whittled down to 16 players before heading to North Africa later in the month.<\/p>\n

“The technical bench will analyse the squad. Four players will be dropped. Every department will be affected,” Bitok, the former Rwanda tactician hinted.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, former Kenya international Nancy Sikobe has been promoted to the position of Director of Athletics at Texas-based Wiley College.<\/p>\n

Sikobe, a key player for now defunct Telkom Kenya during her heydays, was part of the national volleyball women\u2019s team in the 1990s and among the pioneers of the USA scholarship program.<\/p>\n

She has over 14 years of leadership experience and graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.<\/p>\n

Sikobe, who will continue her role as head coach of the volleyball team, becomes only the second woman to lead the Department of Athletics at Wiley College.<\/p>\n
