Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The fate of embattled Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol will be known Friday. The special Senate committee formed to investigate allegations into his impeachment will table its verdict.<\/p>\n

The 11-member committee has scheduled sessions on Wednesday and Thursday where Oduol\u2019s accusers are set to appear and defend their decision to put him on trial.<\/p>\n

In the programme released by the Committee, the county assembly will on Wednesday begin to give its submissions. Oduol takes to the stand Thursday to defend himself against the charges.<\/p>\n

\u201cBoth hearings will start at 10 am at the County Hall mini chamber,\u201d a statement reads in part.<\/p>\n

Oduol recently promised to unleash a dossier at the Senate that will substantiate his claims of massive corruption in Governor James Orengo’s administration. His evidence, which Oduol claims the county assembly ignored, will be heard by the committee .<\/p>\n

The committee comprises William Kisang (Elgeyo Marakwet), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Dan Maanzo (Makueni), Abass Mohammed (Wajir), Okong’o Omogeni (Nyamira) and Mwenda Gataya (Tharaka Nithi).<\/p>\n

Others are nominated senators Betty Batuli Montet, Catherine Mumma, Tabitha Mutinda, Raphael Chimera and Miraj Abdullahi. Oduol’s hopes of remaining in office now lie with the committee which will make its verdict after conclusion of the hearings.<\/p>\n

If the committee finds the allegations substantiated, he (Oduol) will make history as the first deputy governor to be ousted from office. The motion will then be tabled for senators to take a vote in the plenary.<\/p>\n

If the committee finds the allegations unsubstantiated, then Oduol with survive the impeachment. The decision by the committee will set a precedence on disputes between the wrangling governors and their deputies.<\/p>\n

Kericho Governor Erick Mutai and his deputy Fred Kirui are also engaged in similar supremacy tussles just as Kakamega\u2019s Fernandes Barasa and his deputy Ayub Savula.<\/p>\n

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s differences with his then deputy Polycarp Igathe led to the latter’s resignation in 2018, months after their election.<\/p>\n

While the moving a motion, Senate Minority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot urged the committee to recommend a framework through which disputes between governors and their deputies should be handled.<\/p>\n

Oduol\u2019s petition is now the second to be forwarded to the Senate since 2013 after that of the then Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his deputy Bernard Kiala which was, however, overturned.<\/p>\n

Affected governors have, in most instances, claimed their deputies of advancing political interests something they have rebutted accusing the bosses of sidelining them in the running of the county.<\/p>\n

Others who have had similar wrangles are Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and her former deputy Peter Ndambiri, former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu and his deputy James Nyoro and Nyeri\u2019s Mutahi Kahiga and his former deputy Caroline Karugu.<\/p>\n
