Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nominated MP Sabina Chege has urged former President Uhuru Kenyatta to hold a meeting with party members to iron out Jubilee party issues. Chege who was appointed as the interim party leader on May 2 this year said her faction is not after fighting anybody and that they are only opposed to joining protests organized by the Azimio La Umoja coalition.<\/p>\n

Just four days ago, the faction was dealt a blow after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal barred them from running the affairs of the party. The faction was also barred from calling an Annual General Meeting or issuing any communication on the party until the petition is determined.<\/p>\n

But the MP said their main aim is to ensure the longevity of the party and save it from the embarrassing losses it has suffered in the past. \u201cOur main aim is to ensure the party does not die. We failed in the Juja and Kiambaa by-elections in 2021 and got fewer positions in the 2022 elections. That is the trend we want to stem. We don\u2019t want to continue losing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not fighting anyone. What we said is we won\u2019t engage in demonstrations. Sisi hatutaweka sufuria kwa kichwa,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Speaking while issuing food donations to Murang\u2019a residents, Chege said as members of the party, they love and respect the former President and that their wish is for the party to progress and enjoy the support of more Kenyans.<\/p>\n

Last term, Chege said, the party had 177 MPs with the number reducing to only 28 this term, relegating the former ruling party to the third position. \u201cI want to ask our former party leader, let him call us together as his children so that we can resolve these issues,\u201d Chege said.<\/p>\n

Once the cases in the tribunal are concluded, Chege added that the party will embark on a popularization drive before holding the National Delegates Conference (NDC) so members can decide what they want.<\/p>\n

But she said as a nominated MP, she has been given a chance to lead and that she will work with the current leadership as it is the current custodian of public resources. She said there is no need to antagonize the Kenya Kwanza government, urging Kenyans to give it a chance to work for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut my prayers are that they deliver because if they fail, we will all fail because if I go to the grassroots and people have no food, I\u2019ll have to give out the little I have,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She said the government should put more focus on free education and health care. \u201cThe money issued as bursaries through NG-CDF and county governments can be consolidated for the programme.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria challenged the former President to leave politics and allow Chege to take over the party\u2019s leadership. Uhuru, he said, should retire like former President the late Mwai Kibaki and should only be consulted on national matters when need be.<\/p>\n

He said Kenyans voted for him for two terms and that he should not be competing for the party leadership with Chege. \u201cShe should lead the party. Who knows. Maybe she\u2019ll be the first woman president.\u201d<\/p>\n
