Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Government officers should prudently utilize taxes collected from Kenyans strictly on intended programmes and projects so as to gain the trust of taxpayers.<\/p>\n

Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago said as much as members of the public have a responsibility to pay taxes, the government too have a responsibility of being accountable for the collected taxes.<\/p>\n

Speaking Sunday during a church service in Huruma, on the outskirts of Eldoret town, the Senator observed that if Kenyans played their role of remitting taxes, and government officers utilized the taxes for intended programmes and projects, Kenya would be self-reliant economically soon.<\/p>\n

Mandago, who was accompanied by the current Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii during the church service, however, cautioned Kenyans against heeding civil disobedience calls by the Azimio coalition as this was dangerous for the country\u2019s stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have seen what has happened to countries that have experienced civil disobedience, and we would not wish to see the same happen to Kenya that God has blessed to remain as an oasis of peace for many years,\u201d said Mandago.<\/p>\n

He appealed to Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga to reconsider his position and support the government by accepting the role of the leader of the opposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe opposition has a role to play in the country’s development by providing checks and balances on the government to ensure the country does not head towards the wrong direction,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Governor Bii said the county was fully prepared to host the forthcoming Devolution conference that is expected to attract more than 10,000 participants.<\/p>\n

He said the venues were ready with access roads and water readily available.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also formed a consortium of all hoteliers in Eldoret town to ensure the visitors will be well accommodated, and if the rooms will not be adequate, the visitors will be accommodated in the neighbouring counties of Kakamega, Nandi and ElgeyoMarakwet,” said Bii.<\/p>\n

The two leaders challenged the business community in Uasin Gishu to be prepared to tap into business opportunities that will be brought about by the biannual summit scheduled for August 15th to 19th.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect an economic boom for the locals during the conference,\u201d added the Governor.<\/p>\n
