Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has announced that the government has removed seven million Kenyans who were blacklisted at the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB). Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Molo, Nakuru County, Ruto said he has fulfilled his promise just as he said ahead of the 2022 general elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have made that commitment come true. Seven million Kenyans who were blacklisted in CRB all of them have been removed,\u201d Ruto said. Last year, on September 28, Ruto said at least four million Kenyans would be opted out of the Credit Reference Bureau listing.<\/p>\n

Addressing a joint press conference with CEOs of Safaricom, KCB and NCBA, he said the move is very important as many people have been excluded from any formal borrowing.<\/p>\n

“I am very happy that between four to five million Kenyans will be out of the CRB blacklist by the beginning of November,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

“This is very important; 4 million Kenyans have been excluded from any formal borrowing because of blacklisting. They have been left at the mercy of shylocks.”<\/p>\n

He urged the credit bureau to walk that journey with hustlers so that they are not disadvantaged, adding that the model of listing defaulters should be amended.<\/p>\n

“Governor please explain to our people in the CRB space that we should change the model of listing so that we do not make an all-or-nothing process, and unfairly disadvantage borrowers,” he said.<\/p>\n
