{"id":97064,"date":"2023-07-04T20:42:23","date_gmt":"2023-07-04T20:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/gachagua-well-implement-measures-to-curb-road-crashes"},"modified":"2023-07-04T20:46:41","modified_gmt":"2023-07-04T20:46:41","slug":"gachagua-well-implement-measures-to-curb-road-crashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/gachagua-well-implement-measures-to-curb-road-crashes","title":{"rendered":"Gachagua: We&#8217;ll implement measures to curb road crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The government will implement wide-ranging measures to improve road safety and avert further loss of lives, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Tuesday during the memorial service for Londiani crash victims, Gachagua said the quick interventions will ensure better use of roads across the country and reduced carnages.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was unfortunate that 5,000 lives were lost yearly in road accidents. \u201cPresident William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Roads and Transport to develop regulations to cut reckless usage of the roads and improve the safety of users,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot afford to lose 5,000 people every year, we must intervene and stop it.&#8221; The measures, he said, will be tough in a bid to return order in the transport industry calling for support from all stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>He also pledged government support for the families saying it was tragic to lose many lives. &#8220;Losing 52 people is quite saddening. We pray to God to grant the families peace and strength during this difficult time,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the government was formulating regulations that will make the roads in the country safer.
