Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto has called on African states to empower the Pan-African Parliament to manage key affairs of the continent.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Thursday during the 48th anniversary of the Independence of the Union of Comoros, Ruto also called for reforms in the operations of the African Union organs.<\/p>\n

“Together, let us take the important step of formulating a pathway towards positioning the Pan African Parliament as a key institution in the management of the affairs of our continent,” he said.<\/p>\n

In his address, the President insisted that what the continent needs is African solutions, to the continent’s challenges.<\/p>\n

“I am confident therefore, Your Excellency, that under your leadership, the momentum for AU reforms will gather, and that a fit-for-purpose AU that can effectively implement Agenda 2063, including entrenching the approach of African solutions to African problems,” Ruto said.<\/p>\n

“I look forward to tremendous progress in institutional reforms at the Union, that will enable the AU Commission.<\/p>\n

“AU organs and specialised agencies to rise to their full potential and fulfill their mandate of facilitating the emergence of a union that can effectively participate in global affairs, as part of your historic legacy.”<\/p>\n

The AU Agenda 2063 champions a prosperous Africa, based on inclusive growth and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Others are an integrated continent politically united and based on the ideals of Pan-Africanism and the vision of the African Renaissance, and an Africa of good governance, democracy, respect for Human Rights, Justice and the Rule of Law.<\/p>\n

It also looks to have a peaceful and secure Africa.<\/p>\n

Africa with a strong cultural identity Common Heritage, Values, and Ethics.<\/p>\n

An Africa whose development is people driven, relying on the potential offered by African people, especially its Women and Youth, and caring for Children, and Africa as a strong, united, resilient and influential global player and partner.<\/p>\n
