Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President William Ruto and his Comoros counterpart Azali Assoumani have signed the General Cooperation Agreement which establishes a Joint Commission for Cooperation. The Joint Commission is a framework in which Kenya and Comoros will establish structured cooperation in areas of mutual cooperation.<\/p>\n

These include trade and investment, transport, education, tourism, agriculture, blue economy and maritime security, which are aimed at meeting the aspired social\u2013economic growth and Africa Union’s Agenda 2063.<\/p>\n

The signing was meant to reaffirm the commitment between the two countries to continue developing bilateral cooperation. Ruto and Assoumani held talks focused on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest and concern.<\/p>\n

They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation at the continental and at multilateral levels. In relation to this, Ruto congratulated Assoumani on his appointment as the chairperson of the AU for 2023. He reiterated Kenya’s commitment to supporting Comoros with the role.<\/p>\n

Ruto commended Assoumani for championing the AU Reforms that will enable the AU Commission, AU organs, Pan African Parliament and specialised agencies to effectively play their respective roles in the implementation of Agenda 2063.<\/p>\n

Ruto further congratulated the country for establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He said the move was an important step towards the integration of the continent and the transformation of the African economies. Ruto took the opportunity to invite Comoros to join the East African Community.<\/p>\n
