Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Little-known Anjego Mixed are the Migori county secondary schools’ rugby Sevens champions.<\/p>\n

Anjego, under coach and Principal J.J Masime, on Friday upset Kanga School 24-5 to lift the title during the two-day championships played at Ageng\u2019a School.<\/p>\n

Both Anjego Mixed and Maranda School proceed to the regional championships to be held at Maranda School and Nyamira Girls between July 17 and 22.<\/p>\n

In the semifinals, Anjego Mixed, making their debut at the county level beat last year\u2019s winners St Joseph\u2019s Rapogi 10-5 in sudden death after the teams drew 5-5 at regulation time. In the second semifinal, Kanga School narrowly saw off Tarang\u2019anya High School 12-7.<\/p>\n

Masime said: \u201cI\u2019m not in a hurry. I\u2019m building a team that will lift the regional title next year. This year, I just want the boys to go there and enjoy themselves as they gain exposure. However, don\u2019t rule out upsets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, Masime guided little-known Nduru Boys to a fourth-place finish at the national championships. He was moved to Anjego Mixed early this year and introduced rugby at the school.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the regionals, the boys will not be under any pressure. We just want to announce our presence at the regional level,\u201d added the veteran coach.<\/p>\n

Anjego and Kanga will join Maseno School, Nyabondo from Kisumu county, St Paul\u2019s Gekano and Enkinda from Nyamira county, Agoro Sare and Homa Bay High from Homa Bay county, St Mary\u2019s Yala and Ambira from Siaya county as well as Kisii School and Cardinal Otunga High School from Kisii county.<\/p>\n
