Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has responded to Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s shrinking inner circle amid renewed efforts by the opposition doyen to push back against the Kenya Kwanza government.<\/p>\n

Khalwale said politics is a game of numbers in reference to Raila’s apparent contracting inner circle that has seen some of his former allies either ditch the Azimio or drift away from the outfit’s operations.<\/p>\n

“From a 30-strong galaxy of Azimio stalwarts down to 10. All in less than ten months. Politics is a game of numbers,” Khalwale said.<\/p>\n

Raila has over the months that followed the August 9 polls lost a number of close allies who have either completely fallen out with him and decamped to the Kenya Kwanza or have drifted away.<\/p>\n

They include former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Cotu boss Francis Atwoli, former Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege, EALA MP Kanini Kega and Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris who went against party directive and voted for the controversial Finance Bill, 2023.<\/p>\n

Among those that have drifted away from Raila’s inner circle include former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, ex-Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju, nominated MP John Mbadi, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, former Agriculture CS Peter Munya and Kanu national chairman Gideon Moi.<\/p>\n

None of them were present during Friday’s Saba Saba rally at the historic Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi where Raila announced the launch of 10 million signature collection drive ostensibly to remove President William Ruto from office.<\/p>\n

Others who were previously part of Raila’s trusted foot soldiers but appear to have since taken a back seat from Azimio’s activities include Kisii Governor Simba Arati, former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Busia Governor Paul Otuoma.<\/p>\n

The Azimio boss is now left with not more than 10 trusted lieutenants as he braces for a second round of pushback against the Kenya Kwanza government through street protests.<\/p>\n

During the Kamukunji rally, Raila announced that he will lead his supporters to the streets on Wednesday, July 12 to protest the government’s failure to lower the cost of living and revert its plan to implement new taxes in the Finance Act, 2023.<\/p>\n

And as he rallies his troops to what he termed as the third liberation, Raila will be counting on the full support of about ten trusted allies that have remained steadfast in pushing the Azimio agenda against the government.<\/p>\n

These include former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi.<\/p>\n

Others are Suna East Junet Mohamed, former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah and Millie Odhiambo.<\/p>\n

During the Saba Saba rally, only a handful of Raila’s allies were present.<\/p>\n

They included Siaya Governor James Orengo, Wandayi, former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga, Makadara MP George Aladwa, ex-Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria, Otiende Amollo and Starehe MP Amos Mwago.<\/p>\n
