Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua has said that she carpools with other Azimio leaders to cut costs. While explaining why the Azimio coalition had suggested carpooling, Karua said it is not a new thing to them as they have been doing it for a long time.<\/p>\n

Speaking at Spice FM on Monday, Karua said the move will deny President William Ruto fuel tax. \u201cThey are making life more difficult for Kenyans, they ought to be denied what they are seeking,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

“Long before the taxation issue came I always carpooled, there are meetings we have appeared in one car with Eugene (former Defence CS Eugine Wamalwa) at times with other people.<\/p>\n

“Carpooling is not a new thing to us, even to do things we do, we need to cut on costs of how we operate, we not telling people things we have not done,” In June, Raila asked his supporters to carpool and cut down on non-essential travel.<\/p>\n

“One way, to do this is to carpool. Let us arrange to make regular journeys in a single vehicle whenever possible. Give each other a ride. Cut down on non-essential travel. Walk instead of driving whenever possible,” Raila said on Tuesday during a rally at Kamukunji grounds.<\/p>\n

“I appeal to all the employers to allow their workers time to walk to and from work.” He also urged matatu operators to carry excess passengers to limit the number of vehicles used thereby limiting fuel consumption.<\/p>\n

This was despite it being against traffic rules for public service vehicles to carry excess passengers. “I appeal to the matatu owners to support tax boycotts. While observing safety measures, they attend the current fares by doubling the carrying capacity as part of the civil disobedience,” he said.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Raila walked ditched his high-end vehicles and opted to take a matatu to work. In a video, the former Prime Minister was seen walking from his home to a bus stop, where he engaged Kenyans, bought newspapers, and then boarded a matatu.<\/p>\n

“Embracing the convenience and camaraderie of public transport heading to work this morning,” Raila said. He was accompanied by his Azimio allies and aides.<\/p>\n
