Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Friday pleaded with residents of Wajir and Northeastern at large to share intelligence with the relevant authorities that will help in neutralizing the activities of the al Shabaab militia.<\/p>\n

Speaking in the border town of Kotulo, Duale who was accompanied by local leaders said the war against terror can be won by the security agencies alone.<\/p>\n

The discussions focused on strategic collaborations, information sharing, and proactive measures to address the increasing security challenges in our region posed by the threat of al Shabaab.<\/p>\n

Duale said that the government has recruited and deployed enough intelligence personnel in the region calling on residents to compliment the effort by sharing actionable intelligence.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to wage a successful war against terrorism and violent extremism, we must bring everyone on board. I want to call on residents to work closely with security apparatus by providing timely and actionable information that can help in deterring would-be threats,\u201d said Duale.<\/p>\n

Duale who also held a series of security and intelligence meetings in Diff, Gherille, Konton and Kotulo areas along the border with Somalia regretted that the militants have wreaked havoc in the country.<\/p>\n

He assured that the government will use all means possible to ensure the threat posed by the militants is eliminated.<\/p>\n

Duale said that the Kenya Defense Forces will, according to their constitutional mandate with other security agents, defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the county from all forms of internal and external threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to affirm that the outlawed militia shall not find abode in Kenya once they are flushed out of Somalia and we shall track them to degrade their infrastructure in Somalia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the Ministry of Defence is enhancing the capability of the Kenya Defense Forces to acquire modern and sophisticated weapons to enable them to combat the ever-changing security threat.<\/p>\n

“I want to state that we will deal with al Shabaab menace once and for all. We will not allow these rag-tag militants to continue carrying out attacks in our county, killing our citizens and injuring others. We will not allow them to preach radical ideologies to our people and kill our citizens,” Duale added.<\/p>\n

Duale said that it cannot be that the region continues to experience a spat of attacks when senior security officials come from the region.<\/p>\n

The region has the director of Intelligence Noordin Haji, Assistant Inspector General Noor Gabow and Mohamed Amin who heads the DCI.<\/p>\n

In order to reduce the conflicts arising from the scramble for resources, Duale commissioned the construction of a borehole that shall be drilled by the Military to supply clean water for the local community in the Gerille trading centre under the KDF civic duty programme.<\/p>\n

On his part, Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said insecurity in the county and the region at large can only be addressed through collaboration between wananchi and the security apparatus.<\/p>\n

The governor said the presence of the CS reaffirmed the commitment of the national government towards supporting and collaborating with regional authorities in matters of defence and security.<\/p>\n

“We appreciate the recognition of the unique security concerns faced by Wajir County, given our proximity to the border and the challenges associated with cross-border activities,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n

“We look forward to working closely with the national government, local leaders, and the community to implement the decisions made during these meetings.”<\/p>\n

Duale was accompanied by MPs Aden Daud (Wajir East), Hussein Barre (Tarbaj), Mohammed Adow (Wajir South), Abdul Ibrahim (Mandera South) as well as Farah Maalim Bishar from Burhaje in Somalia.<\/p>\n

A host of area MCAs were also present.<\/p>\n

The CS warning comes barely hours after three people were killed after two attacks by al shabaab militants in Wargadud and Iresuki in Mandera South.<\/p>\n

The two police officers and one teacher died in the 2 am Wargadud attack. A Safaricom mast was also destroyed.<\/p>\n
