Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The hike in fuel prices has continued to hurt businesses and other consumers across the country. Jane Muli, a businesswoman in Kenol town residing in Thika, said since the increase in fuel prices, it has become very expensive for her to use her vehicle to commute to work daily.<\/p>\n

She said she has been forced to use matatus in an attempt to cut her travel expenses. “Before the fuel prices increased, I could spend Sh1,500 on fuel for a whole week but the same amount is enough for six days,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have decided to alternate between using my car and public transport to reduce expenses although PSV is not as comfortable or as convenient as my private car.”<\/p>\n

Boda boda operators have also expressed their concerns about a decline in their business turnover, as customers find it increasingly expensive to use their services. Peter Muruga, a boda boda rider in Kenol town, said the rise in fuel costs has been particularly unfavourable for him and his fellow riders.<\/p>\n

“Although there had been previous price increases, our customers had adapted and were comfortable travelling by boda boda. However, I am now concerned about how long it will take for them to adjust to these even higher prices,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The majority of us work here to support our families. Our wives do not work, and it is our responsibility to take care of them and provide for our children’s education,\u201d Muruga said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore the fuel prices had increased, I could fuel my motorbike for Sh500 and work for a whole day making profits of Sh400 to Sh600. After the fuel prices were hiked, we are finding it difficult to even make Sh300 a day because there are no customers.”<\/p>\n
