Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Twenty-five schools will grace the fifth edition of the Private and International Preparatory Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Swimming Championships on Saturday at the Mpesa Academy in Thika.<\/p>\n

Among schools that have confirmed participation are St. Christopher\u2019s Schools Nanyuki, Foresight Academy, Merishaw School, Kitengela International Main Campus, Teule School, and Chantilly School.<\/p>\n

Others are \u2014Liz Wanyoike School, Alliance Boys, Alliance Girls, Umoja Sharks, Falcon Heights, NextGen, Condor Swim Club, and Mugomoini Primary School. The recommended age groups for the individuals and teams will be; 6 years and under, 7\/8, 9\/10, 11\/12, 13\/14, and 15 years and over.<\/p>\n

In addition, the championships will have no qualifying times and all events will be swum on a heat-declared basis, with seeding done using times from the team database.<\/p>\n

In the fourth edition held last month, Kianda School emerged overall winners after scooping up 48 golds, 47 silvers, and 38 bronze medals. Dashing Dolphins Swim Club and Strathmore School came in second and third respectively with 112 and 79 medals respectively.<\/p>\n

The invitational championships, which are set to be conducted under the Kenya Aquatics Federation rules, will act as the last event for this term. The event comes a month after the last PIPSSA edition held at the Moi Educational Centre in Nairobi<\/p>\n

PIPPSA Kenya technical director, Francis Mwangi, said he is hoping for new talent to emerge from the various schools that will grace the event. \u201cGoing by last month’s edition, this one is expected to be a competitive event. The calibre of competition is getting better and better and we expect a bumper turnout,” he observed.<\/p>\n

Mwangi said they are keen on raising the popularity of the sport in Kiambu County and the numbers are encouraging. Mwangi said they are keen to take the sport to the grassroots in the county and hope the results will be seen in the years to come.<\/p>\n
