Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Lobby groups have called on the DCI and the ODPP to take stern action against Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama for alleged misuse of firearm.<\/p>\n

The lobbies in a joint statement on Friday said his action is against section 88 of the Penal Code of Kenya adding that it is vital for the nation’s stability and prosperity that leaders act as beacons of hope and reason.<\/p>\n

They include Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU), FIDA Kenya, Haki Afrika, Katiba Institute, Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI), Shield for Justice, Social Justice Centres Working Group, Transparency International Kenya and Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ).<\/p>\n

\u201cArama brandished his gun on Wednesday when peaceful demonstrators questioned him over the passage of the Finance Bill. At some point he was heard in a viral video threatening to pull the trigger if protesters did not disperse,\u201d the statement read in part.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeaders must exercise their positions responsibly, and promote unity, understanding, and constructive dialogue rather than fueling unrest,\u201d the joint statement says.<\/p>\n

They have acknowledged that not all the protesters are peaceful, adding that some turn into vandalizing private and public property and robbing bystanders.<\/p>\n

They condemned the acts of hooliganism as unacceptable and called on protesters to conduct themselves with responsibility.<\/p>\n

Arama on Wednesday allegedly brandished a gun to wade off protesters in Nakuru.<\/p>\n

In a video seen by the Star, Arama who was at the time holding his gun, a pistol, asked the protesters to disperse.<\/p>\n

He insisted that he also voted for Azimio leader Raila Odinga but he still lost to President William Ruto.<\/p>\n

“Kwani hatukupigia Raila Kura? Si hata mimi nilimpigia akashindwa na William Ruto alafu unakuja kutuambia upuzi hapa,” Arama was heard saying in the video.<\/p>\n
